In this article we’re going to cover the art of money management as it applies to gambling.
Money management is important in all walks of life, where any type of investing or spending is involved. Because of the risks involved in gambling, especially in casino gambling, money management is more important than even knowledge of the game itself. Unfortunately, most novice gamblers don’t understand how important this is or even that they should do it. Hopefully, this article will help the novice gambler understand how to better manage their funds when hitting the casinos.
So what exactly is money management? Well, it’s what it sounds like. It’s managing your money in such a way while at the gaming tables so that you minimize the possibility of loss. This is in direct opposition to those who go to the gaming tables for the sole purpose of winning as much money as they can, money management be damned.
Okay, so how is this money management accomplished? It starts with understanding the odds of the game you are playing.
Let’s take the game of roulette. A roulette wheel consists of 38 numbers; 18 black, 18 red and 2 green. Trying to gain the best chance of winning at this game you want the odds to be as close to your favor as possible. In this case betting either red or black or for that matter odd or even will give you the best odds. What exactly are those odds? By dividing 18 black, red, odd, or even numbers (they’re all the same) by the total numbers on the wheel, which are 38, you get a percentage of 47.36%. Those are your chances of winning on any one spin of the wheel.
So what does this have to do with money management? Everything.
For every 100 spins of the wheel, on average, you are only going to win 47 of those spins. So if you were to bet, say, $10 on each spin of the wheel eventually you would be on the minus side. Why? Because you would win 47 times for a profit of $470 and lost 53 times for a loss of $530. Adding those numbers together you come up with a net loss of $60. So in this case you did not manage your money properly given the odds of the game.
So then the question becomes, how DO you manage your money even though in the long run you are going to lose more than you are going to win?
By realizing that after a win you are most likely going to have a loss. Therefore, after the win, betting $10, you want to bet less than $10 on your next wheel spin. That can be anywhere from $9 down to the table minimum, which in most cases will be about $5.
Let’s take a look at what happens now. Let’s say after each $10 win we drop down to $5 and then we lose the next spin. If this pattern continues for 100 spins taking into consideration that will are going to have 3 wins less than the 50 we would like since it’s not exactly 50-50, we come away with a profit of about $225. Quite a big difference from the $60 loss we experienced betting $10 on each spin. By managing our money we took the same odds with the same number of wins and losses and turned a negative into a positive.
That is money management as it applies to gambling. Take the same principal, figure out the odds for the game and that will determine how much to bet for each spin, roll, or deal at the table.

Installing a PCI wireless card might seem like a bit of an adventure — after all, you have to open the case, find where to put the thing, close it again… and then you have to deal with the software! Even if you’ve never opened your computer before, though, you shouldn’t have too much trouble with it if you follow this simple 10 step guide.
Step 1: Look at the Manual. Yes, I know it seems like a dull thing to do, but you really need to at least skim the manual for things if you’re going to go putting them in your computer. It’s much better to do it now than to realise afterwards that you missed an essential step in the installation. A few cards, for example, require you to install the software before installing the card — do this now if you need to.
Step 2: Switch the Computer Off. Before you even think about opening the computer, you’ve got to switch it off. You should use the ‘Shut Down’ option to make sure that the computer will start fresh next time, and wait for it to shut down completely.
Step 3: Unplug the Computer. To be safe, you should disconnect the computer from the power supply now. If there is anything connected to the computer, you should unplug that from the power too, as well as unplugging the wires from the back of the computer. If you’re nervous that you won’t remember which wire goes where when it’s time to put them back again, you could draw a diagram before you start this step. Most modern computers have a matching color coding system on the rear panel. Pink goes to pink, green to green etc.
Step 4: Remove the Case. To avoid damaging your computer’s parts or electrocuting yourself, you should be wearing an anti-static wristband (also known as a ground strap) whenever you open your computer. If you’re not sure how to get the case off, consult your computer’s manual. It’s usually just a matter of unscrewing, though — but make sure you keep the screws somewhere where they won’t get lost.
Step 5: When the cover is removed, the first thing to do is to locate the PCI slots on your motherboard, different motherboards have different amounts of PCI slots, for example you may already have a PCI card installed, in which case just choose an empty slot to install your new PCI card. PCI slots are long, rectangular slots inside the computer. Some of the available PCI slots might be used by existing modems or Ethernet cards. If there’s no space for your new wireless card, then you might need to remove some of this old equipment.
Step 6: Insert the PCI Card. If you’re using a PCI slot that hasn’t been used before, you’ll need to unscrew the piece of metal filling the gap in the back of the computer created by there being no card there. Make sure you store this piece in a safe place, in case you ever need it again.
When you insert the PCI card into the slot, do it as carefully as you can. Try not to touch any of the circuits on the card. Once it’s in the slot, you will need to press firmly, but don’t use too much force. You should also make sure that you point the wireless card’s antenna upwards.
Step 7: Close the Case. Just do what you did in step 4 in reverse — put it all back together.
Step 8: Plug In and Start. You need to plug your computer back in and start it. If you don’t want to re-attach all your cables right now, you will at least need to plug in the keyboard, mouse and monitor. Many people are scared when they turn on their computer again after installing a PCI card and it doesn’t work — only to find that the error was caused by them not reconnecting their keyboard! When you reboot your machine Windows (or other OS) should find the card automatically, it will then prompt you for the driver disk/cd that came with your card, insert the CD and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 9: Install Drivers and Software. Once the computer’s done starting, it should notice it has some new hardware. This is when you should insert the CD that came with the card, and leave Windows to do its thing. If everything’s gone to plan, the PCI card should be set up automatically. If things don’t happen automatically, try inserting the CD before you panic.
Step 10: Configure Your Network. Your PCI wireless card gives your computer a permanent wireless connection. The first time you use it, you should be asked which wireless network you want to connect to. Choose your wireless network from the list, and you’re ready to go!

Speaking about health before pregnancy, we mean way of life, nutrition, physical activity, habits, and also possible chronic diseases, such as heightened blood pressure or diabetes. If you have such diseases, then you just have to visit a doctor beforehand. You know, this may complicate pregnancy, bring harm to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor which medicinal preparations and in which doses you take. Doctor will recommend you tests and observations you should pass, for example, X-ray photography. Try to discuss all questions you have for the moment.
It is much simpler to think over a strategy of treatment before pregnancy and then worrying about complications.
Diabetes
Diabetes - it is a disease, appearing as a result of lack of insulin in organism, this hormone is produced by pancreas. If you have diabetes, it will be more difficult for you to become pregnant. Moreover, diabetes can influence passing of pregnancy seriously. First of all, it can become a reason of miscarriage or giving birth to a dead baby. Secondly, women suffering from diabetes can give birth to babies with inborn defects.
You can reduce risk of such complications due to constant control of sugar content in blood during pregnancy. If you don’t care of your state, then diabetes while pregnancy may turn out to be dangerous both for you and your future baby. Majority of complications, connected with diabetes, are displayed during first trimester, i.e. during first 13 weeks of pregnancy.
Pregnancy may cause complications of state while diabetes, what will require increase of insulin doses. This can be easily determined with help of test on sugar content in blood. Majority of doctors recommend taking a special care of this disease development during at least 2-3 months before conception. This will help to reduce probability of risk of miscarriage or other problems. Probably, you will have to pass tests on sugar content in blood several times per day, to control disease completely and avoid possible complications. Past experience shows that women, suffering from diabetes, had serious problems with conception and passing of pregnancy. But die to complete and constant control even women-diabetics can count on successful result of pregnancy and delivery.
If in your family there were cases of diabetes or you have slightest suspicions as for your own health, pass tests before pregnancy surely.
Asthma
About 1% of pregnant women suffer from asthma. It is impossible to predict influence of pregnancy on asthma. Half of women, suffering from this disease, notice no changes during pregnancy, about 25% feel even slight improvement, and the rest (25%) observe worsening of state.
Majority of anti-asthma remedies are safe for pregnant, but it is still better to consult a doctor as for preparation to take. Almost all who suffer from asthma know what may become a reason of fit, so avoid contact with allergens before getting pregnant and during whole pregnancy. Try to control your state yet before pregnancy.
Hypertension
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, can cause complication both of mother’s and unborn baby’s health. For women it is connected with risk of refusal of kidneys work, probability of hypertensic crisis or headache. Increase of a future mother’s blood pressure may become a reason for decrease of blood inflow to placenta, what will lead to delays of fetus development, i.e. a baby will weigh less, than normal while birth.
If you had high blood pressure before pregnancy, then you just have to take care of it during all 9 months. Probably, gynaecologist will send you to therapeutist’s or family doctor’s observation with this purpose.
Before making a decision to become pregnant, women, suffering from hypertension, should consult a doctor. Some remedies against high blood pressure are safe for pregnant, some are not. On no account quit taking pills and reduce dose without a doctor’s prescription! This can be dangerous. If you plan giving birth to a baby, ask you doctor about remedies you are taking against high blood pressure, and about safety of taking these medicines during pregnancy.
Heart diseases
During pregnancy load on heart increases about 50%. If you have sick heart, it is necessary for your doctor to know about it before you become pregnant.
Some heart diseases, such as mitral valve prolapse, can seriously complicate passing of pregnancy. Probably, you will even have to take antibiotics before delivery. Other heart diseases, such as inborn heart disease, may seriously influence state of health. In this case pregnancy and delivery are sometimes contra-indicated.
Consult your doctor as for heart diseases before you become pregnant.
Kidneys and urinary bladder diseases
Infections of urinary system, in particular urinary bladder, often appear during pregnancy. If you don’t cure disease in time, infection may pass to kidneys, causing pyelonephritis.
Infections of urinary bladder and pyelonephritis may lead to premature birth. If you ever suffered from pyelonephritis or repeating infections of urinary system, this should be determined before pregnancy.
Stones in kidneys also may complicate passing of pregnancy. This disease is accompanied by severe pains in lower part of belly, so it is quite difficult to diagnose it during pregnancy. Moreover, stones in kidneys may become a reason of appearance of infections of urinary system and pyelonephritis.
If you ever had some only infection of urinary bladder, you should not worry a lot. But you still should inform your doctor about it. He will decide whether you need to pass more careful observation before pregnancy.
Thyroid gland diseases
Thyroid gland diseases may appear both because of excess or lack of thyroid hormone. Excess of hormone is called thyrotoxicosis. In this case metabolism in human organism is speeded up. This may be caused by Graves’ disease. Thyrotoxicosis is usually cured with help of operation of medicinal remedies, reducing content of thyroid hormone in organism. If you don’t cure this disease, there’s rather high level of risk premature birth and giving birth to a baby with low weight.
You can carry our treatment during pregnancy too: there’re quite safe preparations, which pregnant women may take.
Lack of thyroid hormone - hypothyroidism - is usually caused by disease of autoimmune origin. In this case thyroid gland is damaged by anti-bodies, which are produced by your organism. While hypothyroidism taking of thyroid hormones is prescribed. Not cured hypothyroidism threatens with sterility or habitual noncarrying of pregnancy.
If you have thyrotoxicosis or hypothyroidism, you need to pass through observation before pregnancy, to determine doses of medicinal remedies, necessary for treatment. In the process of pregnancy your necessity in preparations may change, and then you will have to pass another observation.
Anemia
Anemia means that there’s lack of haemoglobin in your organism. There’re several reasons and in connection with this several kinds of anemia. Symptoms of anemia are weakness, giddiness, lack of air and pale skin.
During pregnancy necessity of organism in iron and iron-containing substances increases. If in the beginning of pregnancy you suffer from lack of iron in blood, anemia increases this lack. So you need to take vitamins and preparations, containing full choice of microelements, necessary for organism.
One of specific types of anemia - sicle-cell disease, which is passed genetically: it is mainly spread among black population. If you suffer from sicle-cell disease, your organism is deprived of oxygen. Passing of this kind of anemia can be very painful, and it also may serve as a reason for other diseases and complications during pregnancy. Sicle-cell disease cannot be cured and may be passed to your baby. Women, suffering from sicle-cell disease, have very high percent of miscarriages and infections of urinary system. They also may suffer from high blood pressure and painful hypertension strokes.
Another kind of anemia - thalassanemia is also passed genetically. If some of your relatives suffers from thalassanemia or you suppose you can have it, check it before pregnancy.
Lupus
Lupus is a vascular disease of autoimmune origin. This means your organism produces anti-bodies that may destroy your organs or influence functions of these organs negatively. Lupus can affect different organs, including joints, kidneys, lungs and heart.
This disease is hard to diagnose. One woman of 700 in the age from 15 to 64 years suffers from lupus. Among black women it is met more often, in one case of 254. As a rule, lupus more often strikes women, than men, especially women of genital age, i.e. from 20 to 40 years.
Lupus treatment is highly individual and usually means taking if steroids. It is better not to become pregnant during fit of this disease, as miscarriages are extremely often among women suffering from lupus. Risk of giving birth to a dead baby also increases.
Babies, born from mothers, suffering from lupus, can have rash. They also can have different heart diseases. Premature birth and delay of pre-natal development of fetus are also quite possible.
If you suffer from lupus, consult your doctor before pregnancy definitely.
Epilepsy and epileptic seizures
Epilepsy - is a chronic disease, characterized by different kinds of seizures (fits). Most often epilepsy is displayed by big and small epileptic seizures. Chance of giving birth to a baby with epileptic disease can be 1 of 30 for women, suffering from epilepsy. Such babies have risk of in-born diseases, probably, connected with medicines, which a future mother took during pregnancy.
If you take medicines against epilepsy, it is very important to consult your doctor before pregnancy. Discuss doses and type of medicines, which you take, as many preparations, relieving seizures of epilepsy, cause in-born diseases in babies. However, there are safe remedies for fetus, for example, Phenobarbital.
Seizures can be dangerous both for mother and fetus. So it is especially important to take remedies precisely according to a doctor’s prescription during pregnancy. On no account reduce dose or quit taking medicine yourself, without a doctor!
Migraine
About 15-20% of all pregnant women suffer from migraine. Many women notice improvement of health during pregnancy. If you are going to take pills against headache during pregnancy, check with your doctor how much they are safe for you and future baby.
Cancerous growths
A question of probability of cancer’s influence on pregnancy depends on the fact which organ it stroke and how wide is growth. Breast cancer is most often form of cancer, met among women. If you had breast cancer, this will not influence pregnancy anyway, and pregnancy, in its turn, will not cause breast cancer.
Many doctors advice to wait 2-3 years with childbirth after breast cancer treatment. It is very important to discuss case history and method of treatment with your doctor yet before pregnancy. Situation may become quite complicated, if you are pregnant and pass treatment at the same time. Many medicines and remedies against cancer are not safe for future mother and baby.
Other diseases
We examined only some chronic diseases. However, any disease can be dangerous for future baby. So if you suffer from some chronic disease or have to take medicines constantly, discuss it with your doctor.
General rule is following: it is better not to take medicines or pass any medical treatment at the moment of conception and on early stages of pregnancy. Laying of all organs and tissues of a baby takes place during 1st trimester of pregnancy, and during this period you need to protect a future baby from harmful influences of medicines or observations. You will feel better and calmer, if you solve all these problems before pregnancy.

Today, Norm Goldman, Editor of Sketchandtravel and Bookpleasures is honored to have as our guest author and writer, Sally Wendkos Olds.
Sally has written about family, children, women, relationships, sexuality, psychology, health, and travel, and has authored several books.
Sally has also contributed articles to: McCall’s, Ms., New York Times Magazine, Redbook, Woman’s Day, and many other major publications.
In 1993 Sally and artist Margaret Roche trekked to the remote village of Badel located in the eastern hills of Nepal. They were the first western women to go there.
Norm:
Sally, could you tell our readers something about yourself and why you wanted to trek to Badel? How many times have you returned since your first trip?
Sally:
I had trekked in Nepal twice before with my husband, Mark, who was fulfilling a boyhood dream by going there. In 1987 we went to the Annapurna region and in 1991 to the Everest area, and I fell in love with this little Himalayan kingdom.
I became entranced by the remarkable sweetness and cheerfulness of the Nepali people. In spite of their poverty and hard lives, none of the Nepalis I had met showed bitter, hostile, or even resigned faces to the world. I wanted to learn more about them - and I wanted to learn what they could teach me. I eventually did both.
Mark, whose knee gives him trouble, did not want to go back to Nepal. Through serendipitous circumstances (which I describe in the book) I met Margaret Roche, an artist who had also trekked in Nepal several times, and we decided to go together to a remote hill village and stay with local families. We went to Badel for the first time in 1993, and we returned together three more times, plus one trip each on our own. I have now been to Nepal seven times.
Norm:
Where exactly is Nepal, as well as Badel? How easy or difficult is it to travel to Nepal and what can travelers expect once they are there?
Sally:
Nepal is a narrow, crescent-shaped country about the size of Florida, with a population of about 27 million. It lies north of India and south of Tibet, separated from it by the Himalayas, the youngest and highest mountain range in the world. It’s easy to get there if you don’t mind multi hours in the air and in airports changing planes. Getting to Kathmandu, the capital, from North America involves about 20 hours of flying time. Badel, in the eastern hills due south of Mount Everest, is reached by a 35-minute flight from Kathmandu to a small airstrip in the village of Lamidanda, and then by a three-day trek, since there are no roads into the village.
Kathmandu is a lively, crowded city of half a million. It’s full of the roar of motorcycles; the beeping of horns by taxi drivers swerving around sacred cows resting in the middle of busy thoroughfares; and men and boys trying to sell you carpets or hashish or the all-purpose nostrum “tiger balm,” change dollars on the black market, or take you for rickety rides in bicycle rickshaws.
Much business takes place on the street - and also in the many shops and in the restaurants serving cuisines from around the world. Religion too takes place in the streets, dotted with Hindu and Buddhist shrines and temples.
Norm:
I noticed you had written an article about a Himalayan Seder-Passover in Kathmandu. What was this all about?
Sally:
For about the past dozen years a group of Lubavitchers from Brooklyn (New York) have held an annual Passover celebration on the grounds of the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu, flying over some 250 frozen kosher chickens, countless jars of gefilte fish, and scores of boxes of matzo.
Israel and Nepal have cooperated with each other since 1960, and Nepal is a popular travel destination for young Israelis, especially after they complete their military service. About 1,000 Israelis come to this seder every year, and in 1993 I was lucky enough to be able to join in.
Norm:
As many of our readers are interested in romantic destinations, could you describe some unique and romantic destinations in Nepal, and would you recommend Nepal as a romantic destination?
Sally:
I would recommend Nepal as a romantic destination for any couple who enjoy visiting exotic cultures and getting to know each other in a totally new environment.
* Those who like hiking, camping, and the beauties of nature can experience all these in Nepal. Kathmandu, the capital, offers 5-star hotels and simple guesthouses, top-flight restaurants, gorgeous Himalayan vistas, artistic splendour, and fascinating sight-seeing and cultural opportunities.
* Pokhara, in the geographic center of the country, is known for its stunning natural beauty, with a gentle climate, tropical flowers, a sapphire lake, and magnificent mountain views.
* At Chitwan National Park in the south, you can ride on elephants, go white-water rafting, see tigers, rhinos, and some fifty other kinds of mammals, as well as 400 species of birds.
* The world-renowned Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge provides luxurious accommodations and food, and a number of more modest lodges are in and just outside the park.
* Along popular trekking routes you can either camp out in tents or stay at teahouse-lodges, some of which are high-end, while others are humble. Tour agencies can make all your arrangements for any of these destinations, or you can go independently and hire your own guides.
Norm:
You are the author of a book entitled, A Balcony In Nepal: Glimpses Of A Himalayan Village. Could you tell us something about the book and what made you want to write the book?
Sally:
The book is about the way of life in Badel, a remote hamlet in Nepal’s eastern hills, and how Marge Roche and I were affected by our visits with the people there.
Through our guide, Buddi Rai, the first university graduate from Badel, we were able to meet and talk with the village midwife, headman, school- teachers, shamans, and other citizens. We learned about marriage, birth, death, and many other customs. Some of the people we met have been immortalized by Marge’s graceful drawings and water- colors, which are in the book.
At first we thought this way of life would go on forever, but now I wonder whether we may have witnessed the twilight of a changing way of life. The nine-year-old insurgency in Nepal by Mao-inspired guerrillas, has affected village life and sent many villagers to new lives in the cities. Still, some aspects of life in Nepal’s many regions without electricity or roads will probably endure for years. And once peace returns, the inherent sweetness and friendliness of Nepal’s people will, I am sure, have survived intact. I have to add here that although the rebellion has sparked violence in many outlying areas, no tourists have been targeted, and visitors from around the world continue to come to Nepal to experience its many treasures.
Norm:
As a follow up, can you explain some of your research techniques, and how you found sources for your book?
Sally:
For this book, unlike the other nine I have written, most of my research involved living in the country and observing the people and events around me. I was what anthropologists call a “participant-observer.”
Although I took a few lessons in the Nepali language before I left the U.S. most of my conversations with local people were translated by Buddi, our guide, who speaks excellent English. My sources were right there in the village. I did expand my knowledge of Nepal’s history and culture by reading scholarly books, most of which I purchased in the excellent English-language book stores in Kathmandu. Through them I learned about the Gurkha soldiers, the many different ethnic groups in Nepal, the succession of rulers, and other aspects of the country and her people. I’m happy to say that A Balcony in Nepal has been republished in India for the Southeast Asia market and is now available in Kathmandu.
Norm:
What challenges or obstacles did you encounter while traveling to Nepal? How did you overcome these challenges?
Sally:
The main challenge was the physical one. Before every trek I trained for months. I hiked on hills and walked up and down flights of stairs (up to a total of 1,000 steps), so that I would be able to master the endless hills of Nepal. (You don’t have to be a super-athlete, however; I was 53 years old when I first went, and 70 on my last trip.)
I also needed to be immunized against a number of diseases. And I always took with me supplies of medicines, including antibiotics against intestinal and respiratory illness, some of which I did experience. I also took out travel insurance in the remote possibility that I would need to be helicoptered out of a remote location.
Once there, as in any Third World country, I was careful about what I ate and drank, and I made sure to get enough rest after the strenuous days of trekking. For the most part, I’m happy to say that I stayed in good health and returned safe.
Norm:
Since the first time you traveled to Nepal, what changes have you noticed over the years with each of your return adventures?
Sally:
When I first went to Kathmandu in 1987, the streets in Thamel, the back-packer neighbourhood where I have always stayed, were dirt roads; now they are paved. Garbage pick-up was a matter of stray dogs and sacred cows eating from piles in the streets; now trucks come by every morning.
The number of gourmet restaurants, high-end shops, and 5-star hotels has mushroomed over the years. Communication with the outside world has become more widespread with the advent of email and the Internet, and the cities are full of inexpensive cyber-cafés. In the villages solar power has enabled the use of house lights and television sets.
One change in Badel was brought about with Marge’s and my help - we raised money to fulfill Buddi’s dream to start a library in his village, and we saw it in operation. Another change I wrote about in the book was the plastic surgery that corrected cleft lips in two village children - and gave them new smiles and new lives.
Norm:
When did your passion for writing begin? What kept you going?
Sally:
As a child I wrote poems and stories, and in college I majored in English Literature, but my real passion for writing did not begin until after my first child was born, and I began to write articles about infant care. I went on to write about women’s and children’s health, and other subjects including the civil rights movement, in which I was involved.
My first book was about breastfeeding, a topic close to my heart, since I had nursed all three of my children and found it a fulfilling experience. The Complete Book of Breastfeeding was published in 1972, has gone into three revised and updated editions, sold about two million copies, become a classic in the field, and is now being read by the daughters of the women who read the first edition. Sometimes when I have a bad day at my desk I look around my office and see the covers of the ten books I have written, and I get the confidence to go on with whatever I am struggling with at the moment.
Norm:
I understand you are familiar with some wedding venues in Vietnam. Perhaps, you could describe one or two and indicate why they are unique?
Sally:
In February 2005 Mark and I visited the city of Dalat, the “jewel” of Vietnam’s central highlands. It was a popular hill station when the French controlled Vietnam and is now a favorite honeymoon spot for Vietnamese couples.
Dalat has been called Le Petit Paris, the City of Eternal Spring, and the City of Flowers. It boasts a miniature Eiffel Tower, a beautiful lake, lush gardens, a golf club, and hotels ranging from modest to magnificent. Side trips include a tour of an emperor’s summer palace; a visit to a village populated by the Lat ethnic group; the Valley of Love, with paddle boats, canoes, and motorboats for rent on the lake; and a ride on a cog-railway train to a village with an ornate pagoda.
Norm:
What is next for Sally Wendkos Olds?
Sally:
These days I am juggling three kinds of activities: interviewing fire-fighters for an oral history project; presenting slide talks about Nepal and China and preparing one about Vietnam; and working on the manuscript of a novel that I just resurrected from my file cabinet.
Norm; Thanks once again Sally and good luck with all of your future endeavours.

Fat does Not Make You Fat. One of the other huge myths is that fat makes you fat. It doesn’t. When you eat fat, your body has to break it down into its little building blocks and then absorb the pieces. The fat you have in your body is not the same as the fat you eat. In fact, the fat naturally found in whole foods is fat you actually need for your body to function properly.
Essential Fatty Acids are the name given to the types of fat that you need to eat. This is why they are called essential. Your body cannot make them, you must eat them. And these essential fatty acids are only found with fat that naturally occurs in whole food. What are these essential fatty acids used for in your body? Well, literally everything. Every cell in your body is partly made up of these essential fatty acids. To breathe, to have your heart beat, to run, walk, think, to make hormones, to remember anything, you need essential fatty acids for all of these and basically, to live. And if you don’t eat them in the food you eat, your body will not function properly. And the only place you can find essential fatty acids is in food that has naturally occurring fat in them. So if you try and cut fat out of your body, you will actually be causing harm and not really be doing anything to get rid of the fat already in your body.
So what is one of the main causes of being fat. Sugar and refined carbohydrates. NO, not again with the sugar, you might be saying. Yes, Sugar and refined carbohydrates are really one of the main causes in many problems we as humans face today. You can pretend it is not true, you can believe it is not true, but no matter how you try and avoid it, sugar and refined carbohydrates will still negatively impact you whether you want them to or not. And whether or not you believe they will or not.
How does sugar and refined carbohydrates make you fat? It is really simple. You have a relatively set amount of fat cells in your body. It is just a matter of how big your fat cells are. So what affects the size of your fat cells? Sugar. Because glucose is what is stored in your fat cells. And there is a little “gate” that controls the movement of sugar in and out of your fat cells. And the key to this little gate is insulin. Insulin is the key that opens the gates to the fat cells and allows excess glucose in the blood to go into the fat cells. So if you never eat anything that raises your blood sugar levels beyond normal, your body will not release insulin, and you will not get bigger fat cells.
The body releases insulin to lower blood sugar levels that are too high. So Sugar and refined carbohydrates are actually what is one of the biggest contributing factors to why people are overweight.
The ironic part of all of this, is that when you get food that has “artificially” been made to be low fat, you know what they usually put in when they take out the fat? Sugar. They usually add the very thing that contributes to people being fat when they are trying to make something that many people think is helping them not be fat. Fat does not make you fat. In fact, you need the essential fatty acids found in fat to live. Sugar is one of the biggest contributing factors to what makes you fat.

The right phrase for baldness is alopecia. The very most common kind of alopecia is male pattern baldness and affects nearly a third of men and women. This kind of hair loss is naturally permanent.
Permanent hair loss comes in three ways. Male pattern baldness will often start in the awfully early part of a males life, with hair loss and baldness beginning to happen as young as 18 years. The typical very first signs can include loss and baldness of hair surrounding the crown of the head and furthermore at the forehead. The result will probably be partial or full total baldness.
Female pattern baldness is similar to male pattern baldness resulting in permanent hair loss. This sort of hair loss and baldness is oftentimes developed after a lady gives birth to her girl or boy. The hormone imbalance causes hair loss although ladies do not naturally experience full loss of hair. Explore the latest hair loss techniques from Advanced Hair Studio, home to hair restoration.
The last sort of permanent hair loss is by Cicatricial. This happens when some inflammation in the scalp causes scarring of the scalp and the hair strands fall out forever. The man will often lose hair folicles in random sections of the scalp, or even spread all over the scalp.
With forever hair loss the good solution for tons of men and women will often be to get advice from a hair regrowth centre in order to gain back confidence.
Can you spare five minutes a day to practice a mental conditioning technique that can literally save your life? The answer better be “yes!”
Physical conditioning and skills practice comprise only 50% of the training necessary to help police officers survive a critical incident. The other 50% lies in something most officers have neglected; mental conditioning. Eastern cultures have long embraced the practice of mental conditioning to complete their training and I am convinced from my experiences on the street that this type of training is at least as important as physical conditioning.
I’ve spent the last 12 years researching, practicing and perfecting a skill that very few people in emergency services have ever heard of, let alone experienced. It involves a powerful training technique using mantras for focused mental conditioning. Mantras are phrases that are repeated over and over to strengthen the mind. Mantras have been used and perfected in the East for literally thousands of years to produce some of the greatest warriors the world has ever known. I have discovered a way that we can adapt certain aspects of this incredible training into our daily lives. The results are remarkable and they will make a powerful contribution to your survival training.
You can begin this process by selecting your specific mantra. Mantras can be any phrase of your choosing, whatever suits your needs at the time. Some examples of possible mantras include the following:
“I will survive!”
“I can control my fear!”
“I will not panic!”
“I will stay calm at all times!”
“I can control my pain!”
I recommend upon awakening you sit on the edge of your bed and settle your mind. Take three deep, slow breaths and begin to silently repeat your mantra. Continue breathing normally and silently repeat your mantra with intense focus and deep inner conviction. Make this your only thought for a full five minutes to set this as your mantra for the day. You may continue throughout the day to repeat your mantra whenever you wish. This will help to engrain it even deeper into your consciousness.
Once you begin to make this training a part of your daily practice you will begin to see positive and powerful results. You will find that your mind and body will be better prepared to face your next crisis. Without conscious thought your mantra will echo in your mind, strengthening your resolve and ability to survive. Do not underestimate the power of programming your mind to survive. In his book, “On Killing”, Dave Grossman describes how mental conditioning is a revolution that represents total superiority in close combat. I could not agree more. It can literally be the difference between life and death.
The challenge resides with your willingness to implement this technique into your daily training. If you apply yourself, this technique combined with your physical conditioning will help to develop your survival skills and ensure you will walk the warrior’s path for years to come. Can you spare five minutes? Yes, you can!

Most people looking to buy a treadmill are interested in getting a discount. We all want to save money and get a higher quality product right?
So where can you go to find huge discounts on brand name treadmills? There are several legitimate ways to get a discount treadmill which I’ll outline in this article.
Please note however that I’m not saying: ‘buy a cheap treadmill’. With treadmills, you definitely don’t want to skimp on quality.
A cheap, unstable treadmill with improper cushioning and low quality parts will not only cost you in repairs but in health. You can ruin your joints and cause long term health damage.
So I’m not saying ‘Go cheap’ with your treadmill. What I am saying is that there ARE several ways to get a high quality treadmill for a discount price. Here they are:
#1) Buy From An Online Fitness Store
There are several online fitness stores that sell a large variety of brand name treadmills directly to you. Because they are not paying the overhead costs of a store, these savings get passed on to you and you can often save hundreds of dollars on a brand name treadmill.
Plus, most of these stores will give you free shipping (which can save you up to $150). And you can even save on sales tax in some areas.
One note of caution: Not all fitness stores are alike. Make sure you buy from an online store that offers proven experience shipping treadmills, secure online ordering and a solid money-back guarantee (a 30 - 60 day money back guarantee is standard with treadmills).
#2) Buy Directly From The Treadmill Manufacturer
Some treadmill manufacturers will sell their treadmills directly to the consumer. By skipping the middleman (the store) you also save on the mark up price that the store has to add to make a profit.
This can, again, save you hundreds of dollars and get you a brand name treadmill for a discount price. Like online stores, when you buy directly online from the treadmill manufacturer, you also can usually get free shipping and even save on sales tax.
Again, remember to buy from a manufacturer that offers secure ordering and a 30 - 60 day money back guarantee.
#3) Buy A Used Treadmill
While I don’t really recommend this, some people save money by purchasing a used treadmill.
The main drawback to this option is that there is no warranty to protect your investment. If your treadmill breaks down you’re either out the money to fix it or out the money you spent to buy it (if you choose not to repair the treadmill).
If you do decide to go this route, make sure you know the make and model of the treadmill and that you’ve checked the store price of the treadmill. This will give you more bargaining power and ensure you don’t overpay for the treadmill.
So those are several ways to get a legitimate discount on your treadmill. For a list of treadmill manufacturers visit:

Enjoy and have fun!

Using a ghostwriter to craft your free reprint articles and marketing materials is an excellent way to maximize your time and profit. The fastest and most effective way to find a freelance ghostwriter or editor is to post your writing projects on an on-line service like Freelance Work Exchange at http://tinyurl.com/3v69r. This allows interested writers to submit their proposals to you. It makes short-order of a needle-in-a-haystack task.
If you’ve already posted a writing opportunity, you’ve probably received several proposals and/or bids from interested writers. Whether you’re already working with a ghostwriter or still considering potential candidates, you want to develop a working relationship that is both professional and congenial as well. This will allow you to maximize the benefits of having your own ghostwriter.
Working with your ghostwriter should be an easy and productive experience. After all, removing the pressure of not having time to write and still gaining exposure through marketing with articles is your purpose for even considering a ghostwriter. It may take a few projects and a little time to develop a good working relationship with a regular ghostwriter, but there are several ways that you can help the process along from your end.
- Your ghostwriter is not your employee, at least not in the traditional sense. Remember, freelance writers offer their services on a contractual basis. You can’t expect your ghostwriter to drop all other projects to work on yours exclusively, without prior notice. By developing a good working relationship with your ghostwriter you can be assured that they will give your projects priority.
- Be open to suggestions from your ghostwriter. He/she may have powerful ideas that can help you target your audience more effectively. Don’t be afraid to ask for his/her ideas or opinions, especially if he/she has been writing for several years. While the subject of an article is always your decision, your ghostwriter may have an article idea that could be very productive for you.
- Offer ongoing and/or continuing opportunities. One of the best ways to guarantee that a professional is always enthusiastic about writing for you is to offer projects on a regular basis. You’ll often be able to receive a less than standard rate for services once you’ve established yourself as a recurring client.
- Mix it up a bit in your writing opportunities. Here’s where you get to expand your work and also increase your exposure in marketing with articles. If there are related subject areas in which you are involved offer your ghostwriter opportunities to help you with these as well. Remember that you can ask your ghostwriter to rewrite sections of your web site, proofread your correspondence or write proposals. This helps keep things fresh for the writer when you allow him/her to focus on other subjects or other areas of writing.
- Be flexible. If your ghostwriter delivers an article with which you are truly displeased allow him/her to do some editing before you completely reject the piece altogether. When making directives for specific editing requests try to explain why you are making your request. This can help your ghostwriter learn your particular preferences and help further develop his/her ability to write from your perspective.
- Be reasonable regarding timeframe for delivery of your article. All work takes time and as you already know, so does writing in particular. Try to offer new projects far enough in advance that your ghostwriter has time to produce his/her best work for you. Even if your ghostwriter is an expert in your subject and works well against short deadlines, he/she can usually produce a better article for you if not pressed for time.
- Money talks, but not always the same language. You may be surprised to learn that many professional ghostwriters are more drawn to regular work than a one-time-shot larger payment for writing an article. As I often say, writers are real people with real lives and financial commitments like everyone else. In offering your projects to a different writer each time you’ll definitely receive a variety of work, but you won’t have much security. By working with one or perhaps two ghostwriters you’ll have the benefit of knowing what to expect in their work.
- Don’t keep your ghostwriter’s name a secret. Sharing the name of your ghostwriter with other people who may have a need for his/her services goes a long way in maintaining a successful relationship. Not only is it the most genuine compliment you can offer, it is also one of the most effective ways of ensuring that you’re a valued client. Even freelance writers who have built a regular client base are almost always accepting new opportunities, if only as filler projects during slow times. Sharing your ghostwriter’s name demonstrates your value of their work. You can be the first name to whom your ghostwriter likewise makes referrals in your area of business and/or expertise.
- Pay your ghostwriter’s fees promptly. Many ghostwriters charge a deposit or in-advance payment on projects that they accept as a standard for doing business. However, some do accept work without a deposit. Whichever agreement you reach with your ghostwriter, it is important that you honor that agreement just as any other contract for professional services by making payment upon receipt of services.
