An antique is an old, often ancient collectable item that is sought after for the several reasons that render it highly desirable. These include age, rarity, utility, and condition as well as several other unique features. These antiques generally represent some aspect of a previous era of human existence.
Most antiques are objects which show a high degree of fine craftsmanship or an alternative attention to detail and design. Some of these include desks, automobiles, or utensils. Most antiques can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the level of craftsmanship as well as the rarity of the item and the quality of the particular specimen.
Antiques are generally purchased in antique shops or passed down to posterity as an estate. Antique shops normally carry a wide variety of antiques, including very rare and lovely silver antiques which are so rare that some of them have been priced at over ten thousand dollars. Valuable antiques like this are usually kept as heirlooms of a family, though some of them have been known to have been peddled by antique dealers of a higher caliber and other high end auctions.
More and more frequently, the use of online auction sites have been used for the buying and trading of antiques. These sites allow antique collectors from around the world look at the wide array of antique silver available online and bid on them without ever having to leave their home. However, this causes some confusion to often happen as buyers are not able to directly see the item as they are able to do in traditional auctions and antique dealing shows and stores.
Antique dealers are most often members of national or local trade association which belong to CINOA which is a confederation of art and antique associations across over 20 countries and representing well over 5000 dealers. These associations can correspond about the latest antique big finds, and antique dealer conventions.
Antiques come in many varieties; the material that they are made of usually determined their core worth. For instance, antiques made out of wood may be less valuable than antiques made from glass or silver antiques. All in all, antique quality is based on several key things. What it is made out of, what condition it is in, how old it is, where and when it was made, and the dealer that is buying or selling it.
