Country decorating ideas can help you create a home that is warm, inviting and the perfect home to live in. Country style decorating ideas help you capture the spirit of country living during modern times. If you are restoring a country home, try to keep the original woodwork, windows, floors, fixtures and cabinetry unless they are beyond salvaging. For decorating a new or existing home, there are choices you can make that will provide you with the charm and comfort of life in the countryside.
Consider these country decorating ideas and country style decorating ideas:
1. Country Dining Rooms - use a large rectangular table made of pine, oak, walnut or mahogany with wooden chairs or old benches that are similar in style and material. A corner cupboard, plate racks, dresser or sideboard will provide perfect storage and serving area for the dining room as long as they match the style and the materials of the table and chairs.
2. Country Bathroom Decorating - country bathroom floors are made of wood, ceramic tile, linoleum, vinyl or natural cork. Carpeting used in the country bathroom is not appropriate. Wood and brass accessories are perfect materials to use in a country bathroom. Plain white towels instead of patterned or bright modern patterns are better. Wicker or wire baskets keep your sponges, loofas and shampoos handy near the tub or shower besides looking great.
3. Country Kitchen Decorating Ideas - use country decorating ideas in your kitchen. Give your kitchen a calm, elegant country atmosphere with soft colored walls, antique-looking lighting (chandeliers with wrought iron arms), wooden antiques or antique reproduction cabinets, plate racks and stone or wood fireplaces. Kitchen cabinets made of wood, aged surfaces, natural materials, rough finishes and round knobs provide a country style. Cabinets or kitchen furniture made of pine, even painted, can be beautiful key elements in the country kitchen. Country kitchen countertops use ceramic tiles or even hand painted tiles, slate or marble. If you want to use laminate materials, go for plain colors for coverings. Terracotta tiles, brick, stone and wood are very popular materials for country kitchen floors.
4. Kids Rooms - use wicker baskets, wooden chests and wooden bookshelves for storing books, toys and stuffed animals. When using tall bookshelves in your kid’s rooms, anchor them to the ceiling or walls so they cannot tip over. Bright colored plastic boxes are not good country style decorating ideas.
5. Furniture - furniture with simple lines, perhaps made of lacquered pine wood works great. Give furniture a rustic look by finishing it in a distressed, aged way. For example, brush on a coat of paint, then rub most of the paint off with a sponge or cloth. When dried, apply wood stain sealer unevenly. It will be perfect! Or use two paint colors and sandpaper to create a distressed look for unpainted or previously painted surfaces. Get free country decorating ideas by visiting your local home decorating or paint store for help with materials and techniques. Have fun looking for antiques, reproductions and handmade products when buying furniture for your country home.
6. Sofas or Love Seats - country decorating ideas can transform your love seat or sofa. Add a beautiful loose floral print “slipcover” for a romantic country look. Include padded stools and ottomen for comfort and as a place to set your drinks or newspaper. Add one or more rocking chairs. Traditional country chairs and sofas have high backs. And if the living room has a bay window, consider building a window seat with several cushions, a perfect place for reading and relaxing. High tripod side tables are appropriate next to the sofa or love seat for country home decor.
7. Antique Cupboards or White Cabinets - use a white cabinet or antique cupboard to show your ceramics, pottery, yellowware bowls, glass jars, or a collection of enamelware from the 30’s or 40’s to give your home a beautiful country style. Open shelving not only provides storage, it gives the room a country look, especially when earthware, stoneware and rustic items are displayed.

With numerous types of flooring solutions available in the market, it can be really confusing to choose an appropriate kind of flooring that is suitable for the home. However, there are different factors based on which one can select the right kind of flooring. Foremost among these is the amount of money one wants to spend on flooring. Apart from this, another important factor is the room that needs flooring. Choices vary based on the traffic in the room, amount of dirt the room gets, type of colors and scheme used for decorating the interiors of the room and whether the floor is warm or cold.
First thing to do while looking for good flooring solutions is to make a list of different types of flooring options that are available. Some of these options include carpet, hardwood, laminate, vinyl, marble, tile and bamboo. Next aspect is to list of the advantages and disadvantages of each variety. Carpets can keep the room soft and warm. However, they tend to accumulate dust and can cause allergies. On the other hand, hardwood flooring can provide an elegant appearance but are really expensive. Tile flooring works well in bathrooms and kitchens because they are nonporous and are resistant to moisture.
How to Activate Your Entire House from the Living Room
No other room in the house offers the feng shui potential that the living room does. This room is central to family life and to feng shui. When it comes to feng shui, no other room can compare to the living room. That’s because the living room is the ONE room in the house that can be activated according to all nine sectors of the bagua or lo shu square — making this a very important room, indeed.
When you want to affect the feng shui of the entire house, you should begin by applying feng shui enhancements or remedies to the living room. The benefit is that the living room can boost the feng shui of other parts of the house that may have afflictions or are missing or shouldn’t have a particular enhancement.
For instance, if the bedroom is in the north sector, a water fountain would be a great feature for enhacing career feng shui. However, water in the bedroom is not recommended. But, water in the north corner of the living room will help boost that sector’s feng shui with beneficial water energy in the corresponding corner.
How is this possible? Think of the yin-yang symbol in the center of the bagua. This symbol is called the “tai chi” — yes, just like the martial art exercise. This tai chi can be applied to any size space and is referred to as the large tai chi or small tai chi.
As an example, you can apply the bagua to your lot that your house sits on. This is called the large tai chi. The small tai chi would be to apply the bagua to an individual room — such as the living room — or to an area such as a desk. In applying feng shui to the living room, you are activating the small tai chi.
Be aware, though, that depending upon the sector, you may not want to apply all enhancements. For instance, if your living room is in the northwest corner of the house, then it would not be advisable to add candles to the south corner of the living room because an open flame in the NW sector of the home is very dangerous.
I actually know of someone whose house began to burn down from candles that were placed in this sector. More importantly, is that the NW is the sector of “heaven” or the patriarch or breadwinner of the family (if the breadwinner is a man). With that caveat in mind, do proceed with making changes to your living room. By doing so, you will instantly improve your feng shui for your whole home!
1. Arrangement, arrangement.
The whole point of a living room is to create a room where the family comes together or where guests can be seated and all can enjoy conversation and each other’s company. Living rooms are the place of celebrations and good times, so they truly benefit from proper arrangement.
Many times, living rooms suffer from a L-shaped configuration caused by L-shaped sofas or by position a sofa and loveseat at a 45 degree angle to one another. This creates conflict and a feeling of being unexplainably uncomfortable in the room. Remember, televisions and fireplaces aren’t the focal point of a living room — people are.
Instead, arrange the living room so that sofa and seat FACE one another… Don’t worry: you’ll still be able to view the fireplace and TV, but you will instantly and dramatically improve your desire to be in the room and you will cultivate more loving and harmonious relationships. Better still, you will improve the flow of energy in the room. So, get to moving those sofas!
2. Add some red and gold.
To make certain that families are harmonious and enjoying good relationships with each other, be sure to add some elements of red and gold together. This could be a vase of red carnations and gold daisies, or it could be a pillow with gold and red colors. Red and gold together help calm conflict and create good feelings. Be sure to add these two colors together wherever there are conflicts or angry feelings.
3. The picture of happiness.
Be sure to hang a picture of a happy family or occupants in the living room. This picture can influence the entire family. Hang the pictures on an East wall to benefit family relationships. You may also wish to add pictures according to their direction in the living room to boost a particular area. For instance, a picture of a beautiful lake or waterfall would be wonderful on the north wall (career/opportunities) and a large, beautiful tree would be excellent for the east wall (health/family relationships).
4. Add some “yang” to your living room.
The living room should be a good balance of yin and yang. However, a little extra “yang” or positive energy is especially beneficial. This can come from the addition of a red accent wall, a bright chandelier, or a moving object.
5. Boost the lucky corner in the living room.
Where is the lucky corner? This is the corner of the room that is opposite and diagonal to the main entry to the room. If this corner is in the SW, W, NW, or NE, then boost this corner with a beautiful geode, bowl of semiprecious stones, beautiful vase, globe or other earth feature. If the lucky corner is the south or southwest, then boost the chi here with a nice tall bright lamp. If the corner is in the north, add a fountain here. If it is in the east or southeast, you can have a fountain here or add a grouping of beautiful lush plants or pretty flowers.

Graceful and chic are the words that you will hear when you ask
any home renovators what kind of look they want for the kitchen.
Surfaces, including countertops, influence to a large degree the
look of a kitchen. That is why chic graceful looking countertops
are in demand. There are actually many home renovators who are
designing and making their own countertops. One way to add a
modern highlight to a traditional countertop is to create
beveled wood edges for your countertop. Beveled edges on wood
are relatively simple to make and there are other benefits as
well.
The beveled wood edge countertop is most easily added during the
replacement of an existing laminated countertop area. You can
also opt to modify your current countertop by adding a beveled
wood edge; but most homeowners find once they begin planning a
kitchen makeover, a brand new countertop is a must have. Given
the right tools and materials just about any one can renovate a
laminate countertop with an elegant beveled wood edge. It is a
project that can even be finished in only a few hours.
When shopping for supplies for this project, make sure your new
edge wood matches the wood in other features of the room, such
as cabinets, if they are unpainted. If most of the kitchen is or
will be painted, bring a paint chip and make sure the color of
the wood is one that will be harmonious with the room as a whole.
For making the bevel in your wood edge strips, the best tool is
a compound sliding miter saw. This is an electric saw which
pivots from side to side to create the miter cut, as well as
pivoting left to right to create the bevel. If you don’t own
one, you can rent one, or alternately, have the store where you
bought the wood size and bevel it for you. Be sure to do a few
practice cuts on some scrap wood if you have not previously used
one of these saws.
A nice extra to having updated kitchen décor details like this
is that it is your beveled wood edge countertop probably will
raise the value of your home. It might not dramatically go up in
price, but it is the small details that homebuyers appreciate,
and real estate agents like to point out such countertop designs
when showing a home to prospective buyers. It is all the little
details added up that make the sell.
Last but not least, once you’ve learned to successfully add a
beveled edge to your kitchen countertops, you can also look to
the bathroom and other rooms featuring built-in surfaces to
further update your home.
Contractors are professionals who are hired to supply materials and deliver predefined services as per the predefined time and price specifications, especially for construction work. Though many people like to do small home improvement or construction works on their own, they cannot accomplish the experienced services provided by professional contractors.
However, in order to get the best services, make sure you screen the proposals of a few chosen contractors for your project. This will ensure that you get the best work done at minimum cost. Here it is important to remember that it is best to hire services of the contractors that function locally since they are better aware of the market and trends around your area. You can consult your friends and relatives over this matter.
When hiring contractors for home improvement, the contractors that offer the lowest price need not necessarily give the best services. Therefore, it is best to follow the references the contractor provides and ensure whether they have the acumen to give the best to your project or not.
Hiring general contractors is always more economical that hiring specialized contractor. However, if budget is not a constraint for you and you fancy nothing but the best, it is better to hire specialized contractors.
Once you have selected the contractors who will be working on your project, sign a written contract with the contractors. The contract should clearly mark the date of completion and price quotes. This shall also certify that the contractors working on your project are insured, bonded and licensed.

If like everyone else these days, you’re looking to reduce your fuel costs, check your charge air coolers. Also called an intercooler, this component of your engine is essential to keeping your engine fuel efficient. As part of the turbocharger mechanism, if your charge air cooler is leaking or not working properly, your engine’s combustion, horsepower and emissions are all affected. If your engine isn’t working at its best, you’ll be burning fuel unnecessarily.
To understand how charge air coolers work, it’s important to first understand something about how air acts around heat. The more that air gets compressed, the hotter it gets. And as the air temperature increases, it expands as well. This increase in temperature and pressure is part of the turbo charging process. But what you want to get the best performance from your turbo charging technology is to get more air into the mechanism, not just more air pressure. So as the hot, compressed air comes out of the compressor, you want to cool the air before it passes into the engine. This is where charge air coolers come in. A charge air cooler looks sort of like a radiator, only it works a bit differently. Air passes both inside the cooler and along the outside, so that the air is cooled and made more dense before it gets passed into the engine. That way more air molecules are available in the engine for combustion. The more air molecules there are available for combustion, the more efficient combustion will be and the more turbo charge that your engine will get for the fuel that is used.
There are some symptoms in your vehicle’s performance that can suggest that the problem is with the charge air cooler. If you see a great deal of black exhaust or smoke coming from the exhaust, that could be a sign. So could a sluggish feeling in the engine or a situation where you suddenly lose horsepower. If the engine is consistently operating at a hotter temperature than normal or you notice that you seem to be using more fuel than normal, your charge air cooler could be a problem.
But not always will charge air coolers need to be replaced. They can often be rebuilt to a point that they will work just efficiently as ever. But make sure that the repair shop that you choose has experience in working with charge air coolers so that you get the job done right the first time.

A monumental time in the life of any toddler is moving from the
crib or child’s bed to a real “grown up” bed. Consider choosing
a loft bed for your growing youngster, especially if the room he
or she occupies is small for much else than a bed or shared with
a sibling. However, before you move your child to any bed other
than a crib, ensure he or she is at least two years of age and
no less than 35 inches tall. If your child is a late bloomer or
showing no interest in moving up to a larger bed, allow him or
her a certain amount of leeway in regards to switching to a “big
boy” or “big girl” bed.
Many parents choose to invest in a loft bed for their child
because another child has arrived, is on the way, or currently
occupies the house. A loft is a great way to give each child his
or her space without having to sacrifice floor space for child’s
play. Also, a loft bed is a great way to entice your son or
daughter to leave your bed in exchange for something a great
deal cooler in their eyes.
One thing to keep in mind when choosing a loft bed for a young
child is to avoid the ceiling scraping beds and instead choose
lofts that are no taller than four feet. This is especially true
if you are dealing with a youngster who may have a slight fear
of heights, since everything is taller to a child. A four foot
loft still allows a great amount of room underneath the bed and
can be arranged to house a fantastic fort, tent, or enclosed
space that is only for the child. Some children’s furniture
manufacturers are even including specialized loft beds into
their furniture designs that are sure to tickle your child’s
imagination.
Another critical aspect to keep in mind is the safety of the
loft. Ensure the guard rails are stable and properly placed on
the bed. Furthermore, ensure both sides of the bed come equipped
with guard rails. Quite often, children can become trapped or
even fall out of the bed if two guard rails are not present on
the bed. Also, check out the ladder to make sure your child will
be safe while entering and exiting his or her bed. Furthermore,
ensure the ladder is correctly installed on the bed to prevent
any accidents or injuries due to improper equipment.
Once your child has made the move into a loft bed, make time to
speak with your son or daughter regarding safety. Set rules for
entering and exiting the bed and ensure your children will not
play or roughhouse, which can call potentially cause injury.
In the home decorating world, the tropical look has never been
hotter. The casual and warm styling with natural colors and cool
textures bring forth unique rooms that show great style while
offering a relaxing environment. Many choose to create entire
theme rooms in the tropical attitude while some people will
simply accent with tropical items.
Some of the more common tropical accessories include the use of
flowers like orchids and hibiscus in brightly colored fabrics on
drapes and upholstery. Some other characteristics will be
tropical birds and animals like monkeys and tigers. If one is
planning to decorate an entire room in the tropical style using
wallpaper of bamboo creates a great look.
Furnishings should go along with this using rattan, wicker,
bamboo and other natural tropical woods. The tropical style
began in the 1940’s when America was going crazy over anything
to do with Hawaii. This continued into the 1950’s with Cuban
styling and has continued to be popularized by Florida and
Caribbean decorating ideas. Some choose to throw in a little of
the Orient which works well and even using the British look of
the Bahamas.
When choosing lighting for a tropical themed room we want to
incorporate all of these trends. Choose natural tropical woods
such as rattan, teak, and bamboo along with colored and earth
tone wood beads that will continue the relaxed look we are
trying to create. As with furnishings, using items that are
embossed with tropical birds, palms, and large jungle plant
leaves continue the tropical look.
Dependent upon how colorful we have gone with our other choices,
the lamp shades can be either brightly colored or more muted
earth tones. If we have gone with earth tones in our upholstery,
we may choose to accent with brightly colored lamp shades.
There are many new lines of ceiling fans that offer the wicker
and rattan look that can really cap off the look of a tropical
themed room. Don’t forget to add this to yours, it can make a
huge difference in the overall look of the room.
Changing a room to a tropical theme can be very easy and
incredibly fun and the home décor industry offers many choices
to help you create your own unique style.
